ABOUT THE AUTHOR, THE WOMAN AND THE MOTIVATOR
I am like any other black woman or girl who is growing, learning, and inspiring through her story. I laugh, I smile, I hurt, I turn up, I cry and I fight, but one thing I dont do is GIVE UP. l make mistakes and I fall short, but I KEEP STRIVING for better. That is why it is my passion to encourage and motivate not only young women but anyone who is in a phase in their life where they are striving for betterment, even in the midst of adversity. I understand the struggle as I am a young black woman who was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, yet I rose above the trauma, the hurt, the pain, the violence and negativity that surrounded
me to defy the odds.
When I lost my parents at an early age, my aunt took full guardianship over me and my older sister. Losing my parents was an experience in my life that I found myself having to adjusted to, which wasn’t the easiest thing to do, but with therapy and my faith in God, I was able to stay sane enough to accomplish so many wonderful things in my life that some people doubted I could. Not only did I have tofight through others peoples doubt, but at times I had to fight through my own self doubt as well. So, I understand how it feels to fight through doubt, fear and feelings of unworthiness, especially when others are doubting your greatness too. It isn’t a great feeling, but if you allow it to, it can prevent you from progressing the way that you should be.
That is why my love for writing and encouraging others intensified the older I had gotten because I realized that like myself, there's so many other people going through stuff that is making them feel unworthy, unheard and a host of other feelings. Also, I've always had a love for writing because I saw writing as a way to better express my thoughts and my feelings, especially when I felt like I didn’t have a voice.
Through my story, I pray that I touch at least one person because then I know that I did my job and fulfilled my purpose.
I hold a bachelor’s of science in psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master’s of education in community counseling from Loyola University Chicago. I aspire to continue my journey as an author, motivational speaker, and creator.
